The Colby & Gale Food Farm Story.
How does a local business dramatically increase the variety of food available to neighbors facing food insecurity? It starts with 120 yards of soil and a lot of passion. We detail the journey of the Colby & Gale Food Farm: the repurposed wash station, the rapid expansion from 3 to 6 beds, and the crucial collaboration with local organizations like AIO, The Hub, and Community Fridge. The Why?
MOFGA-Certified: The farm meets the strict organic standards of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.
Organic and Local: Focuses on growing organic, fresh, local produce.
Strategic Donation: Grows produce that local food pantries typically do not, helping to provide a more diverse and well-rounded selection of fresh vegetables. Given to AIO Rockland, Twin Village Food Farm, And The Hub
Staff & Volunteer Driven
Our commitment to community goes beyond donations—it’s hands-on. The Food Farm is powered by Colby & Gale employees and generous local volunteers working side-by-side. This collective energy not only transformed a designated plot into a fertile, MOFGA-certified space but continues to ensure that thousands of pounds of fresh produce are harvested and delivered directly to our neighbors in need.

120 Yards of Soil Deposited
We utilized unused acreage space on our property for the farm. Several hundred feet of water lines needed to be installed to supply the beds with water.
Fresh top soil to create raised garden beds.
The ground was rocky and had bad soil starting out and needed to be cultivated to be conducive to growing vegetables
Waterlines needed to be installed and brought in. We utilized the nearby pond on our property for source of water when needed.
Achieving MOFGA Certification required us to utilize strict procedures and adhere rigorously to specific organic farming practices to ensure our standards were met.
